Universal technique of composition used by Mondrian ,Seurat and Kiyonobu
Since ancient times, paintings have focused on
natural objects, so curved shapes have been used.
It is
simplified because it is not a sketch but a shape that remains in memory.
The line is a connection of line segments with a
limited bend.
When
creating a design, the lines naturally become a series of circular arcs.
Once you realize that the arc is part of a
circle, you will realize that the circle of the arc is used for structuring drawing.
This realization occurred to several modern
artists who saw Cézanne's paintings.
Two popular myths about Mondrian still persist.
A) From the Tree series, the curves gradually
became less and less, and eventually the picture evolved into a picture with
only vertical and horizontal lines.
B) Balance is based on the golden section.
Regarding B), I showed in the previous blog that it is made by a simple integer ratio.
The tree series shows that the
technique has reached its highest level.
I made arc model.
The second largest circle that makes the blue arc
seems to form the main structure.
Let's make e a circle-cross model (unit of a
circle and its vertical and horizontal diameters).
There are clearly some circles are aligning on
the vertical and horizontal lines.
I tried
color-coding them.
Next, try overlapping the smaller red circle and
green circle cross models.
I
found a picture of unknown origin online that has an image of a tree.
Judging
from its high level of completion, it appears to have been painted at the final
stage of a series of trees.
The
arc of the largest circle is shown in blue.
Let's try making a circular cross model.
I would like to show that Seurat, who is not
regarded as a formalist, reached the highest level of technique in his late
masterpieces.
