Picasso and Matisse used similar technique.
Humans were thinking properly before they explored how to think.
Similarly, humans were already
logicians before they tried to become logicians.
Etienne Condillac
Genius painters used proper techniques before exploring how to paint.
Here is a drawing
by Picasso whose production method can be analyzed.
Picasso Variant of Head of a Young Girl III (2nd supplementary plate)
from the illustrated book Non Vouloir, 1942
The largest
blue-green circle forms the hair on both sides, the bridge of the nose, and
runs across the top and bottom edges of the screen.
The second
largest red circle forms the left cheek and shoulder.
The orange
circles that make up the eyebrows and both jaws, which are the most numerous,
are tightly organized into a mesh pattern.
The fourth green
circle forming the eyes and mouth intersects in a spiral.
It is easy to see
that it is a repeat of the same arc because it is nearby.
Woman's Head, 1948 by Henri Matisse Hermitage Museum
The largest purple circle forms the left
nape of the neck.
Pink circles create the outline of the face, neck, and shoulders.
The
intersections of the mesh rest on pink wires, making the structure solid.
The model is
created without the need for words.
When we look at
masterpieces of art on structural level,
We can see how
much has been done so far.
A genius painter
discovers the same technique.
Here is a model of the Hokusai manga "Mekura'' that I made earlier.
Sophisticated art
lovers see artwork the same way.
Harmony and
balance can be perceived by looking at the whole.
Looking at each part one by one the characteristics of the work can be grasped.
Start by looking
at the lines.
Just as we can
hear the individual notes of the melody, we can see the parts of the lines.
Line parts can be
distinguished by the degree of curvature.
A curve with the
same curvature is an arc, so we can be conscious of the circle which is the
extension.
The use of
circles for structure become obvious device.
The process is thinking
logically without words.
This way of doing
things is innate, an ability that develops before using words.
