Seurat and Moronobu (Early ukiyo-e painter) used similar technique : twelve- circle- scale method

 (Continued from the previous blog)

Moronobu [Teisounoato]

The whole view of the largest circles can be easily compared with other paintings.

Seurat's "Grand Judd" will be taken up first.

There is a comment from Signac, the first sympathizer of Seurat's pointillism.

Paul Signac commented on Seurat’s intentions in Grande Jatte :

Seurat’s interest in the subject was so slight that he told his friends: ‘I could equally have painted, in a different harmony, the combat between the Horatii and Curiatii.’ He had chosen a naturalist subject in order to tease the Impressionists, all of whose pictures he proposed to redo, in his own manner.”

This model is not accurate because it was made without drawing a circle.

Extending the white arcs large circle model can be made.

To see the structure of the circles clearly, I made large circle model.

.

Making an overall view of the circular structure, we can see that several circles form a side-by-side unit.

By comparing the whole structure

The uniqueness of each work can be easily seen

and we can predict the structure that has not been made yet.
