Shunrou(Hokusai) invented the technique of Sharaku

The Art Institute of Chicago has two "Ichikawa Danjurou" by Shunrou and Sharaku.

Since the production period is almost the same, we can find common points of technique.

The blog "As a memorandum" introduces a theory called “Sharaku is Hokusai” by Tanaka Hidemichi.

              Sharaku [Momijigari]   Hokusai [Kousi]

Koremochi Taira in Sharaku's "Momijigai" and Confucius in Hokusai's nose, beard, thick eyebrows, and blazing eyes resemble each other.

“The nose, beard, and thick eyebrows are similar in how they are drawn and the glint in their eyes.”

It doesn't explain how the drawings are similar.

It is impossible to form a shape of beacon of glare.

The circle model works well to compare any paintings.

In the painting "Danjuro" by Shunrou,

the curves that make the folds of the hakama look like the same arc.

The circle that is the extension of that arc is the largest circle and makes up the     foundation structure.

The bright pink circle which makes the small knife passes through the center of the painting.

Five other circles also pass through the center.

The great blue circles and yellow green circles are also an important component.

In the "Danjuro" painting by Sharaku, there are three crossing points on the yellow-green circle that makes up the great sword.

There are three more cross points inside the picture.

As Sharaku's new technique, four cross points are used outside the screen.

Any visible shape can be represented geometrically.

Sense of sight sees an object as a shape with curved lines.

It tends to simplify a line as a series of arcs.

It is also possible to capture the difference in the curvature of the arc.

Genius painters are half conscious of this and draws a picture as a series of arcs.

Realizing that the extension of the arc is a circle, they construct the circles as a structure.

Once this level of awareness is reached, the transition from Shunrou to Sharaku is clearly noticeable.
