② The same compositional device used by Seurat and Hokusai

I recently found a picture of a Kabuki actor from the late Shunrou(Hokusai) period on the internet.

The most interesting point is that the curves of the banner at the top of the picture seems to be similar to the curves of hakama.

I can confirm it by making the large circle-arc model.

It reminds me of Seurat's "Cancan".

The bends in the upper part of the rim of” Can-can” form an important basic element.

Incidentally the similar device can be seen in Sharaku's whole figure portrait.
This time the main motif of composition is the curve of the swords.
Now it is clear that Hokusai ( Shunrou) already had invented the compositional device which was used for the whole-figure portrait of "Ichikawa Danjuro VI ".

In Sharaku's painting, the structure is such that the right and left sides of the great circle interlock.

Only the structure of the form that is called a masterpiece contains pure art which

is universal.

It has value because its structure is unique.

One of the elements that makes it unique is its basic structure.

In these artworks the largest arcs: the banner, the top curved frame and the swords function as the main shape-motifs.

I found this interesting insight because I consider the digital images are practically daily enjoyable artworks.

Art is becoming part of everyday life.
